How to join

If your organization would like to join CWIPP, it's simple enough. But there are a few steps you need to follow.

1. The employer and union need to agree that participation in CWIPP is the way to go.

2. The two parties will need to decide on the plan features that will be offered to employees and whether employees will be allowed to contribute. They'll also need to agree on whether to have:

  • a contribution rate based on a set dollar amount for each hour worked (the higher the contribution rate, the bigger the pension); or
  • a contribution rate based on a percentage of wage (the higher the contribution rate, the bigger the pension).

3. Before going too far, the employer will probably want to find out how much it will cost to participate. Employers can get a free, no-obligation quote using the on-line Request for CWIPP Quotation. Simply print out the form and mail it to us.

4. The employer and the union must sign a formal agreement to participate in the plan (view a sample agreement).

5. Finally, the Board of Trustees – the group that governs the pension plan – must approve the signed agreement.
